Crochet Stitch Anatomy

It is important to note that the "front loop" and "back loop" are circumstantial. Except for the Half Double Crochet stitch, the front loop is pretty much always the one closest to you and the back loop is the one furthest away from you. In the Half Double Crochet stitch you have a third loop or "front bottom loop" that on first glance looks like the front loop but if you rotate your project forward you'll see the actual back loop.
